County Craft Day 2024

This year’s county craft day was a perfect mix of future ideas and festive cheer! 20 volunteers from across the county spent the day together to develop techniques with a series of craft projects.

It all began with marbling using nail varnish: each volunteer experimented using a spectrum of colours and marbled a bauble decoration, votive holders and a wooden spoon. Top tips were shared and some really effective looks were created.

Next up was card marking! Helpful inspiration was provided and a wide selection of washi tape was available to ignite the creative juices. For over an hour the volunteers immersed themselves into producing several cards on a Christmassy theme and magpying ideas from each other.

Lunch was a great time to network, socialise with old and new friends and collect some leaves from the Willow Tree campsite ready for the afternoon session.

The afternoon began with decopage shells. A beautiful selection of napkins were provided and volunteers had the tricky decision of selecting just one. Using a special glue called modge podge, the napkin was glued to the inside of a scallop shell. Once they had been dried with a hair dryer, gold paint was used to outline the shell.

The final activities were autumn themed: leaf hedgehog and fabric pumpkin. The cute little hedgehog was created out of the simple toilet roll inner and some autumnal leaves. The pumpkin was an opportunity to apply sewing skills on a plethora of fabric. With some wadding and twine the fabric pouch was transformed into a thrifty decorative pumpkin.

20 happy volunteers left for the day with their bags full of goodies and an instruction booklet. A well organised, informative and relaxing day was organised by Marian and Gail and the group were delighted to hear they are already thinking about next year.
