Brownies, Guides, Rangers and Leaders from across Ealing South District came together to celebrate a very special milestone—100 years of World Thinking Day.
Held at Galbraith Hall in Middlesex West, the event welcomed over 40 members from 7 units, all taking part in activities inspired by this year’s WAGGGS theme of Friendship.
Throughout the day, girls worked towards the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) World Thinking Day badge while also completing elements of the Brownie Guiding Glow, Guide Guiding History badges and the Ranger “Memories Last a Lifetime” UMA.
The programme included a range of fun and engaging activities. Teams worked together to untangle human knots, and a lively game of World Centres-themed “Fruit Salad” challenged everyone to remember the locations, colours and logos of the centres. Girls also created a ‘Garden of Friendship’, reflecting on what makes a good friend and what they bring to their friendships.
Creative activities gave each section the chance to express their ideas in different ways. Rainbows and Brownies wrote songs and poems about friendship and World Thinking Day, while Guides and Rangers created and performed short radio plays—complete with sound effects.
The group also joined the LaSER Friendship Brunch via Zoom, sharing the celebration with others across the region. This was paired with an international food tasting, with dishes from over 20 countries, alongside making friendship bracelets and bookmarks to exchange.
As part of the celebration, £55 was raised through Thinking Day Pennies, which has been donated to the Thinking Day Fund to support the work of WAGGGS around the world.
It was a fantastic opportunity to come together, celebrate a century of World Thinking Day, and reflect on the importance of friendship at the heart of guiding.
