On Saturday, 25th April 2026, the 16th Harrow Brownies and Guides marked a monumental milestone as they officially celebrated their 100th birthday. The centenary event brought together generations of members, past and present, for a wonderful afternoon of reflection, celebration, and community.
The afternoon tea was filled with laughter and shared memories, but the true highlight of the day belonged to the unit’s oldest attending member, 91-year-old Rosemary. Given the distinct honour of cutting the spectacular centenary cake, Rosemary captivated the room as she recounted her own days as a Guide, vividly sharing what Guiding was like for her—most notably her experiences during the Second World War. Hearing how much Guiding has evolved over the decades, while still retaining its core values of friendship and empowerment, was an incredibly moving experience for everyone in attendance.
The celebrations were further elevated by the presence of the County Commissioner team, who joined in the festivities to commend the unit on a century of dedication to young local women.
Guests of all ages enjoyed a variety of activities, plenty of tea, and a beautiful afternoon spent reminiscing over old times and looking forward to the future.
It was an absolutely lovely afternoon. Seeing the connection between our current young members and those who walked in their footsteps decades ago—like Rosemary—was incredibly special. Here’s to the next 100 years of the 16th Harrow!
