Championing Curiosity: Aoife’s Inspiring Badge Journey

Some achievements are measured in numbers. Others are measured in creativity and determination. 18th Ealing Brownies’ Aoife’s badge journey is a perfect blend of both.

Last summer, Aoife reached an impressive milestone—completing the full set of 18 original interest badges – succeeding in her goal to complete them all before the new ones were released. For many, that would have been a natural stopping point, but Aoife had other plans.

With new badges introduced and her transition to Guides on the horizon, she set herself an extended goal: complete the entire new set and achieve her Gold Award before Easter 2026. What impressed her leaders the most wasn’t simply that she finished all the badges, it was about how she approached the challenge. This is where Aoife truly stood out and has set a very significant challenge to any following her in this target…

Rather than simply working through the requirements, she reimagined them. Each badge became an opportunity to experiment, explore, and create something uniquely her own. Her work didn’t just tick boxes, she made the experience more interesting for herself and for her leaders as well!

For her projects, Aoife:

  • Designed a slide deck presentation diving into the fascinating world of axolotls
  • Created an interactive Google street view tour of her local area for her Local History badge
  • Made a straw rocket for the Aviation badge
  • Built a Minecraft world to explore “My Rights” in a creative and immersive way
  • Took a journey through Ireland to bring her Folklore badge to life
  • Even used AI tools to design an imaginative new world for her Imagination badge
  • …and much more!

These weren’t just ‘homework’ tasks, turning up to Brownies each week with another piece of paper outlining a badge, each one was treated as a real opportunity to explore something new.

Aoife’s journey is a powerful reminder that badges are more than achievements to collect. They’re opportunities to stretch your thinking, develop new skills, and most importantly, make the process enjoyable. By challenging herself to

approach each badge in a fresh and creative way, she showed just how varied and exciting they can be.

Her dedication, originality, and enthusiasm have truly impressed her leaders. Completing all the new interest badges alongside her Gold Award is no small feat—it’s an outstanding accomplishment that reflects both hard work and imagination.

Congratulations, Aoife! Your journey is inspiring, and you should be incredibly proud of everything you’ve achieved… and we can’t wait to see if you continue this with a whole book full of new badges available to you at Guides!
