7th Headstone Brownies’ Charity Show!

Our Sixers; Anaya, Bhuvi, Evangaline and Hester have been working on their Charities badge and decided that they wanted to raise money for Michael Sobell House by putting on a show for the parents. They decided that they wanted to do Goldilocks and the Three Bears, assigned the parts and then came up with a list of all the things we needed to do before the day to make the event a success!

We dedicated the two weeks prior to the show to planning and practicing. The first week, the Brownies made invitations for their parents and special guests, learnt a song for the show, started working on their bear ears and we worked out which of the other Brownies wanted to be in the show as the narrators. Then the week before the show we spent the evening practicing the songs and rehearsing the show whilst those who didn’t want a speaking part worked on costumes and signs for the refreshments.

On the night of the show, the Brownies arrived for a quick run through before the audience arrived, and we had three Rangers as well as our two Young Leaders prepping refreshments. Then when the audience arrived the Sixers were charged with selling the tickets on the door and keeping the Brownies entertained ‘backstage’, whilst the Rangers looked after the refreshments and donations. We also had a special guest, Carol Weston, the Matron at Michael Sobell House (and friend of the unit) attend which made the event extra special.

Then it was time for the show to begin!

The show opened with all the Brownies singing Teddy Bears Picnic and then the story began. We had nine narrators telling the story and an audience participation prompt along with the three bears and goldilocks. The whole show was in rhyme and they all did an amazing job! The narrators had only received their lines the previous week and they all did so well, they had the words in front of them but some of them had even learnt their lines by heart and added actions! Our sixers, who were Goldilocks and the Three Bears, really showed off the acting abilities, they had lots of lines which they didn’t have to learn by heart but they had really been practicing hard and were only using the script to refresh their memory. Everyone was very impressed with how well they all did. We then had all the Brownies join in once more to finish off with another song, the Three Bears song.

Everyone who came to see the show was so impressed by how much they had pulled off with only one week of rehearsals and we are so proud of how well they all did.

All four Sixers; Anaya, Bhuvi, Evangaline and Hester, did an absolutely amazing job at coming up with the ideas and organising this amazing evening, and all the Brownies worked so hard to pull it off!

Overall they raised a total of £182.50 for an amazing cause!

After the show we had speeches and thank yous and then we used it as an opportunity to give out some awards. With the Charities badge well and truly earned it meant that three of the sixers; Anaya, Evangaline and Hester gained their last theme award and achieved their Brownies Gold Award! A massive congratulations to the three of them!
