Recently as a unit we completed tasks 1&2 of the food critic badge. This was really fun and engaging. We took it in turns to cook pancakes and experimented with different flavours. Blindfolded we fed each other the pancakes with toppings from different flavour profiles, sweet, salty, sour, bitter and umami then tried to guess which was which. Some of the flavours were quite surprising, especially umami.
For task 2 we cooked potatoes using different methods and compared them, mashed fried and baked. We all tried a bit of each. Some were soft, some were crunchy and some were salty. We all had great fun tasting the different types of potato.
After making an A to Z list of different cuisines, in task 3 we chose our favourite cuisine to cook a meal at home for our families. It was really interesting to explore different types of food we usually overlook in greater detail. For example some of us discovered how the presentation of food could affect the taste.
All in all this was a really fun badge to do as a group, we were able to work as a team and impress our families with our cooking skills.
